NHTSA is proposing to update recall notification requirements to include electronic communications along with first-class mail. This multi-channel approach aims to improve recall communication efficacy. Due to recent insights, NHTSA is also considering changes to its prior proposals and seeks further comments.

Each participant will be required to complete a 10-question survey which will be used as a basis for the engaging dialogue as we benchmark these topics further.

Electronic Communications:

  • Current Usage: Are electronic communications currently used?
  • Formats: Email, text, social media, websites, in-vehicle notifications.
  • Contact Data: Sources of contact data (emails, mobile phone numbers, etc.).
  • Coverage: Percentage of VINs with electronic contact information and changes with vehicle age.
  • In-Vehicle Notifications: Use and timetable for entire fleets to offer in-vehicle notifications.
  • Engagement: Response rates, click-throughs, and website search tracking.
  • Notification Types: Indirect vs. direct notifications.
