What Happens After the Autonomous Vehicle Pulls Over? 2037 Vehicle Repair, Service & Warranty Challenge

MAPconnected’s 10-Year Visionary Challenge invites ideas for vehicle repair, service and warranty in 2037.

Help Shape the Future of Service and Warranty in MAPconnected’s 10-Year Visionary Challenge

It’s 2037. An autonomous vehicle is just 30 days old when it pulls over at the side of the road. A warning tells the passengers to get out. Service has been notified, and a repair drone is on its way.

But where does it come from? Who knows what has gone wrong? How does the customer get moving again? And when the repair is complete, what happens to the warranty claim?

These are the questions at the heart of MAPconnected’s 10-Year Visionary Challenge. Following its launch at the Service & Warranty Lifecycle Summit in Detroit, the challenge is now open to industry leaders with ideas about what could happen next.

A Challenge That Looks Beyond the Vehicle

Smarter vehicles will create new possibilities for detecting and resolving problems. But a better service experience depends on more than the vehicle itself.

It depends on how manufacturers, dealers, suppliers, roadside assistance and service providers work together, and on how information moves between them. It also depends on the customer whose journey has been interrupted.

The challenge invites you to imagine that complete journey. You can enter individually or as a team, drawing on your experience and your vision of what could be possible in 2037 and beyond.

As you develop your scenario, consider:

  • Where does the repair drone come from, and who sends it?
  • What roles do the manufacturer, dealership and supplier play?
  • How are the problem diagnosed and the right parts delivered?
  • How is the customer supported while the vehicle is being repaired?
  • What information is recorded, and is there still a warranty claim or payment?

There is room to rethink the process, including the steps we currently take for granted.

A Winning Vision From the Summit

The challenge began at the October 19 Summit dinner, where participants were invited to put their ideas forward. More than 10 entries were received.

Vlad Popescu, CEO of Certum, was named the Summit winner on October 21. His vision followed a vehicle detecting a coolant-pressure drop and imagined how the customer, manufacturer and service network could coordinate the response.

His scenario connected the repair with replacement transportation, recovery, warranty processing and supplier feedback. It also considered how information from one vehicle could help prevent similar problems across a wider fleet.

The Summit entries offered different perspectives on a shared question: what could happen when the people and systems responsible for service and warranty work together more effectively?

Your Chance to Be the Next Winner

MAPconnected is inviting additional entries from across the industry. Whether your expertise is in customer support, diagnostics, parts, repair, warranty or another part of the journey, your perspective could help shape the conversation.

Entries close November 30. The next winner will be announced on December 2.

The prize includes a 2027 MAPconnected MyWarrantyNetwork Members Hub annual membership, along with recognition through MAPconnected’s marketing, social media and email campaigns.
